Scheme for Naturalisation of Investors in Cyprus by Exception

On the 24th of May 2013 the Council of Ministers of the Cypriot government has introduced new and more relaxed criteria beneficial for non-EU national businessmen and investors. The scheme contains number of criteria for investors which can be combined and used as leverage for obtaining Cypriot citizenship. This is a unique opportunity to convert business activities to European citizenship with all the benefits ensuing (free movement, residence, rights and so on). A non-EU national may by exception apply for the acquisition of Cypriot citizenship, if he/she meets several criteria.

The so-called “economic citizenship” might be applicable to individuals who invest in Cyprus economy by meeting one or a combination of the following criteria:

  • Mixed investments and donation to a state fund
  • Direct investment
  • Deposits in banks
  • Business activities
  • Depositors of Laiki bank or Bank of Cyprus who incurred a loss of at least €3 million.
